It is understood that the strengthening of family farming also involves rescuing and encouraging practices that refer to traditional knowledge. Landrace seeds represent the principle of agriculture and the relationship between humanity and food production and maintaining them is fundamental for agrobiodiversity. The objective is to promote the maintenance of landrace seeds in family farming in rural communities in the of Jaguari/RS through the registration of guardians of landrace seeds. In this way, it will be possible to keep these seed varieties on the IFFar campus Jaguari and available to rural communities and academia. The work was conducted through the registration of seed custodians through visits to the properties of family farmers in rural communities in the of Jaguari, identified with the help of Emater-Ascar. Five guardian families of landrace seeds were castrated. The greatest representation in the maintenance of seeds lies with the woman who cultivates, manages and destines the use of these seeds or byproducts on the property. The production for self-consumption is the main responsible for the maintenance of the seeds in the family. These results indicate that guardians are the great holders of knowledge about seeds, since all year long they plant, harvest, consume, trade surpluses and save for the cultivation of the next harvest and this conceives autonomy. Guardians represent the appreciation and recognition of the farmers' historical knowledge, which is passed on from generation to generation.
